Rennsteig Railway

Tourist shuttle service (Rennsteig Shuttle): On weekends and public holidays, modern railcars operated by Süd-Thüringen-Bahn run directly from Erfurt via Arnstadt and Ilmenau to Rennsteig Station. It's a perfect starting point for hikes on the Rennsteig trail or ski tours in winter.

Rennsteig Station is situated at an altitude of 747 meters directly on the crest of the Thuringian Forest and is a central hub for numerous outdoor activities. The hike to the Großer Finsterberg mountain is one of the most popular routes starting directly from the station.
